Telugu actress Sumaya Reddy is gearing up to make her debut as a producer, writer, and lead actress in the upcoming film Dear Uma, which is set to hit theaters on April 18th. The film features Prithvi Amber in the lead male role. Nagesh is the line producer, while Nithin Reddy is the executive producer. Sai Rajesh Mahadev is responsible for the screenplay, dialogues, and direction. The talented cinematographer Raj Thota is on board to provide stunning visuals, and the well-known music composer Radhan has created the film's soundtrack. To promote the film, Sumaya Reddy recently spoke with the media about her experiences and journey in bringing Dear Uma to life.

Hey Ms. Sumaya Reddy, could you share a little about your background?

I hail from Anantapur and kicked off my career in modeling before diving into the film industry. I've loved movies since I was a kid. At first, I thought making films would be a breeze, but I soon found out it's a much tougher road than I expected.

What motivated you to create and write Dear Uma?

While stuck at home during the COVID-19 lockdown, I kept having this same dream over and over—it was like it was following me around. That dream ended up inspiring Dear Uma. This tale is rooted in my personal experiences and is designed to connect with people on various levels.

What brought Prithvi Amber onto the project?

Initially, we reached out to some Telugu actors, but for different reasons, it didn’t pan out. When we shared the story with Prithvi Amber, he immediately felt a connection. Even though he was with a new production house, he jumped at the chance to join us just for the story.

Is the movie taking a jab at the healthcare industry?

We're not bashing the medical field as a whole, but we're highlighting some issues with corporate hospitals. This story looks at the problems that can arise when the middlemen between doctors and patients lack both skill and integrity.

What category does Dear Uma belong to?

Dear Uma mixes fiction with real life. It’s not just about sharing a social message—we’re also presenting a possible solution. The film aims to raise awareness and encourage thought. I didn’t initially intend to handle both the lead role and production, but it became essential as the project progressed.

Did the movie's budget surprise you?

Absolutely! We teamed up with industry pros like Raj Thota and Radhan, plus some famous actors. So, it makes sense that the film's scale and ambition drove the budget up beyond what we initially expected.

Which is tougher—acting or producing?

No doubt about it, producing is a whole different ball game. Acting seems way easier next to it. As a producer, seeing all that cash fly out the door was tough. It was a hard lesson to learn, but definitely worth it.

Share some info about the crew working on Dear Uma

I've been friends with Sai Rajesh for a while now. When I shared the story with him, he instantly felt a connection and decided to join us. Radhan's music really brings the film to life, and Raj Thota's visuals are bound to mesmerize the audience. We're super proud of what we've put together and can't wait for everyone to check it out on April 18. We really hope people connect with Dear Uma and its message.
