The civic movement that shook Kolkata after the heinous rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital showed different moods. On September 15, many people came to the streets again in support of the junior doctors. Actress Sudipta Chakraborty joined such a protesting stage with her daughter Shahida. Sudipta did a Facebook live from that stage. Shahida and others raised the slogan with the music, “Vineet (Goyal, Police Commissioner, Kolkata Police) are you sleeping? Your resignation is due.”
Many people commented on the video. They praised Shahida and wrote, ‘This once again proves that little Shahida is growing with a strong spine like her mother.’ The video shows singer Lagnajita, Sudipta’s husband Abhishek Saha, and others.
This is not Shahida’s first protest. Previously, she wore a black dress and sang ‘We Shall Overcome’ on the piano.
Kaushik Ganguly also expressed his protest by sharing the doctor’s photo, standing with folding hands in front of the CM’s house, on his X handle and wrote ‘If a photo is strong, no dialogue is needed. The photo talks.’
CM Mamata Banerjee’s meeting with the junior doctors was canceled on the night of September 14. The junior doctors came back from the front of CM’s house. The photo of the doctors standing with folded hands became viral. They were drenched in the rain and still stood, but came back empty-handed. From then on, protests have increased.
