Mark Withers, known for his roles in Dynasty and Stranger Things, has sadly passed away at the age of 77. His daughter, Jessie Withers, shared the news with Variety on December 6, revealing that he had been fighting pancreatic cancer. According to the report, Mark died on November 22.

Mark Withers, who sadly passed away at 77, had been battling pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his daughter Jessie and his wife, Haiyan Liu Withers. In his memory, the family has requested that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Jessie paid tribute to her late father and his legacy with a touching message, according to Variety. "He faced his illness with the same strength and grace that he showed in his work, leaving behind a legacy filled with warmth, humor, and dedication, not to mention his incredible knack for making every character memorable. Mark’s lasting talent and devotion to the industry will be cherished by his colleagues, friends, and fans," she shared.

Mark Withers in Stranger Things

Mark Withers portrayed Gary in the fourth episode of the first season of Stranger Things. He worked as a coroner at the local morgue and lived in Hawkins, the fictional town featured in the series. Unfortunately, the character didn’t make a comeback in the following three seasons.

Withers kicked off his acting career in 1978 with How the West Was Won. He had a year-long role as Peter Colcourt in Kaz and also played Ted Dinard in Dynasty. His resume includes appearances in shows like The Dukes of Hazzard, The Hugga Bunch, Criminal Minds, True Blood, and Sense8. 

Over the years, he took on small roles in various projects. According to the Daily Mail, he was an athlete before diving into the film and TV scene. He even scored a football scholarship to Penn State. Mark Withers' profile on Actors Access highlights his expertise in skills like stunt fighting and stage combat. Plus, he dabbled in other sports like volleyball and badminton, and he can strum a rhythm on the guitar too.
