When considering Kangana Ranaut, fine dining may not be the first association that arises. However, this perception is set to change as she prepares to launch her inaugural restaurant. True to form, it will be a café located in her native town of Manali. 

On Wednesday, Kangana took to Instagram to unveil a video that offers an initial look at her charming establishment, The Mountain Story, which is described as a cosy retreat nestled in the Himalayas, exuding an inviting atmosphere.

That perfect, slow Pahadi life

Kangana shared insights about the cafe-restaurant designed by Shabnam Gupta, who has previously worked with her on properties in Mumbai and Manali. In her caption, Kangana expressed, “A childhood dream comes alive, my little cafe in the lap of the Himalayas. The Mountain Story, it’s a love story. The Mountain Story – opening 14 February.”

There is an undeniable sense of warmth that a rustic wooden structure, set against breathtaking mountain scenery, can provide. The lodge-style, multi-level cafe harmoniously combines rustic allure with contemporary elegance, making it an ideal sanctuary in Manali.

Constructed from wood and stone, the spacious cafe highlights exceptional local craftsmanship. It offers a refreshing escape from the chaos of city life. Upon first viewing the exterior, one can appreciate the seamless integration of concrete and wood. The interior, in contrast, exudes a much cosier atmosphere.

Rustic-Bohemian aesthetic

Upon entering the premises, one is greeted by a welcoming lobby adorned with a grand chandelier, which establishes a delightful initial impression. The restaurant features ample seating options both indoors and outdoors, contributing to a sense of structural openness. Expansive windows provide picturesque views of the mountains and showcase enchanting changes in light throughout the day.

The indoor space, characterized by its high ceilings, creates an illusion of greater spaciousness than the actual dimensions suggest. Occasional mountain-themed decor, including vibrant wall carpets and metallic vases, provides a striking contrast to the restaurant's subtle and restrained palette of browns and greys.

The architects have utilized natural colours and materials for the floors, ceilings, and walls, fostering a desired atmosphere of warmth. In contrast, the furniture and decorative accents incorporate a vibrant array of greens, blues, whites, and reds, infusing the space with a lively, Bohemian ambience.
