Kannada cinema's Roaring Star Sriimurali has set a new standard for Sandalwood with his 2024 film, Bagheera, which delves into the vigilante-superhero theme. Produced by Hombale Films, the movie not only performed well at the box office but also marked a significant milestone as the first Kannada film in years to land a spot on Netflix. Sriimurali received praise for his role in this Dr. Suri-directed film, which was inspired by a story from Prashant Neel, known for Ugramm, KGF, and Salaar.

His electrifying performance in the action-filled superhero flick Bagheera earned him the Trailblazer of the Year award at the OTTplay Awards 2025, held in Mumbai on March 22, 2025. During the event, where he was presented the award by Akshay Oberoi and Anil Kumar, and hosted by Aparshakti Khurana and Kubra Sait, Sriimurali expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thank you so much. It feels amazing. I appreciate the OTTplay Awards for this recognition. I’ll keep delivering great films. Thanks to Hindustan Times and everyone. Cheers!"

In Bagheera, Sriimurali plays a dedicated cop determined to clean up his area and eliminate crime, but his efforts are thwarted by his higher-ups. Disillusioned by the system, he pretends to follow their orders while secretly embarking on a mission to achieve his goals, taking on the persona of the masked vigilante, Bagheera.

The film has garnered a lot of praise for various aspects, from Sriimurali's captivating performance to the striking introduction of KGF's Garuda Ram, along with Ajaneesh Loknath's music and Dr. Suri's skilled direction. Many viewers even hailed it as Sriimurali's best performance to date. With the film concluding on a note that hints at Bagheera's return and the creators' aspirations to develop it into a franchise, it seems likely that Sriimurali will don the mask of the hero once more.

The OTTplay Awards 2025, co-hosted by Real Juices and Kühl BLDC Fans and powered by StockGro, along with partners like Flipkart spoyl, DPauls.com, Amante, Propshop, Aussie Lamb, and Krishii Fiber, brought together the stars of India's OTT landscape from various languages. The One Nation One OTT award night celebrated talents such as Kani Kusruti, Manoj Bajpayee, Priya Mani, Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar, and many more.
