2 months ago | 5 Views
The global audience has been captivated by the second season of Squid Game, which premiered in December 2024, and is now eagerly awaiting the third season, scheduled for release this year, with leaked information suggesting a date of June 27, 2025. Notably, this upcoming season will mark the conclusion of the main narrative that has unfolded thus far. However, it is unlikely that Netflix will abandon this intellectual property entirely. It is anticipated that they will seek to expand the franchise and develop a new universe. Amidst ongoing speculation, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has addressed the potential for a spin-off series set between the events of the first and second seasons.
Hwang Dong-hyuk on Squid Game Spin-Off Idea
The production of Squid Game season 3 is progressing well, having already been filmed and currently in post-production. Hwang Dong-hyuk has indicated that the team is exploring ideas for a spin-off, which promises to be intriguing. This proposed spin-off would focus on The Front Man and the now-deceased Recruiter, delving into their activities during the three-year interval between the first and second seasons. Hwang elaborated on the creative possibilities that this gap presents, allowing for an exploration of the events that transpired during those years.
“One of the ideas I’m tossing around is what happened between season one and two. There’s a three-year gap. So, for example, what was the Front Man doing during those three years? What was the Recruiter doing? When I have some downtime, I like to just toss some ideas around and go wild with my imagination. So I guess we can be open to anything,” Hwang Dong-hyuk stated, as reported by Screen Rant.
