Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly demonstrated his acting abilities in a promotional video for the forthcoming series "Khakee: The Bengal Chapter," where he portrayed a police officer. In a reference to his past, Sourav revisited his well-known rivalry with former Australian cricketer and coach Greg Chappell, who served as the Indian cricket coach from 2005 to 2007.

Sourav Ganguly takes a swing at acting

On Monday, Netflix unveiled a promotional clip for the upcoming series featuring Sourav. The video opens with a surprise appearance by Sourav, who unexpectedly joins the set of the web series and expresses his interest in taking on a role. The creator of the show introduces him to a character that resonates with his bold persona—an "honest and aggressive" police officer. He eagerly accepts the opportunity.

Subsequently, Sourav prepares to film an emotionally charged scene, where he is required to channel his aggressive side on screen. The former cricketer appears somewhat hesitant and struggles to convey the necessary intensity. At that moment, a crew member encourages him to recall what provokes his anger. This prompts him to think back to his rivalry with Chappell. A brief clip shows a lookalike of the Australian, dressed in India's distinctive training kit, issuing commands. Following this, Sourav is depicted shouting at the camera.

In the promotional video, he is also shown engaging in action sequences, including confronting criminals. When instructed to complete all the action scenes within eight seconds, he abandons his aspiration to act and instead agrees to take on the role of promoting the series.

Fans react

The promotional material has ignited a wave of enthusiasm among fans, prompting many to take to social media to share their admiration for his acting prowess and cleverness. Actor Prosenjit Chatterjee commented, “You are already part of our team @souravganguly ..@netflix_in, what do you think @jeet30?”

One user remarked, “The scriptwriter deserves a raise,” while another added, “We have Dada roasting Greg Chappell before GTA 6.” Another fan described the content as “incredible,” with an additional comment stating, “My man has just redefined marketing - Dada in uniform, Netflix at its best.”

Fans particularly appreciated the humorous nod to Sourav's historical rivalry with Greg Chappell, commending the former captain's ability to humorously reflect on his past disputes.

One comment stated, “Dada vs Greg Chappell on Netflix. Pure CINEMA,” while another fan quipped, “Disclaimer: No Chappell was harmed (or involved in any controversies) during the making of this film, mate.”

“The person who conceived the Greg Chappell idea deserves a raise,” one fan wrote, with another noting, “Netflix has Dada roasting Greg Chappell.”

One user shared, “Dada roasting Chappell,” while another commented, “They portrayed Greg Chappell poorly in this video.”

“O my Chappell,” one fan expressed, and another added, “Kudos to the screenwriter, especially for the Chappell segment.”
