Sonu Nigam, renowned for his candidness, has once again stirred controversy with his recent comments, this time targeting an album featuring the esteemed AR Rahman and Gulzar Sahab. Sonu Nigam Calls AR Rahman’s Yuvvraaj Album Bekaar

Released in 2008 and directed by Subhash Ghai, Yuvvraaj starred Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. The film received acclaim for its music, composed by AR Rahman and written by the legendary Gulzar. However, in an interview with O2 India, Sonu Nigam, who has collaborated with Rahman on several iconic tracks, labeled the album as substandard. When discussing his performance of the song Shano Shano from the album, he described it as “fairly average” and “not particularly impressive.”

He further commented, “Let’s not delve into it. I cannot bring myself to lie. I cannot commend a poor song.” When questioned about the other two tracks he recorded for the film, he bluntly stated, “Forget about those. All the songs were poor.”

Sonu Nigam on AR Rahman

Sonu Nigam also shared his thoughts on AR Rahman’s character, describing him as a rather aloof individual. Nigam noted, “He lacks personal connections. He is not someone who engages in relationships. He does not open up to anyone. At least, I have not witnessed that. Perhaps he reveals himself to his long-time friends who knew him as Dileep. However, I have not observed him being open or forming relationships with anyone. He is not a sociable person; he is solely focused on his work.”

The vocalist expressed his admiration for Rahman's commitment to his craft and his prayers, stating, “He treats everyone with respect. He will not cause anyone emotional pain. He refrains from speaking negatively about others. He remains detached from such matters. While he may have a close bond with his family, I have not observed him being particularly sociable with others. He maintains a distance from those around him. That is the appropriate approach.”

Sonu Nigam has worked alongside AR Rahman on popular songs such as Satrangi Re (Dil Se), Saathiya, and O Humdum Suniyo Re (Saathiya). The Yuvvraaj soundtrack features eight tracks, including Tu Meri Dost Hai, Shano Shano, Tu Muskura, Mastam Mastam, Dil Ka Rishta, and Zindagi, among others.
