The 25th edition of the International Indian Film Academy Awards was held in Jaipur on March 8 and 9. Following the awards ceremony, Sonu Nigam expressed his dissatisfaction through a social media post, criticizing IIFA for failing to nominate him in the Best Male Playback Singer category for his performance in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.
Sonu Nigam takes a dig at IIFA
On Tuesday, Sonu utilized Instagram to share a screenshot of the nominees for Best Male Playback Singer at IIFA 2025. Accompanying the image, the artist included his song, Mere Dholna 3.0, from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, and wrote, "Thank you, IIFA. After all, you were accountable to the Rajasthan bureaucracy." Meanwhile, Shreya Ghoshal received the award for Best Female Playback Singer for the same track that Sonu had anticipated being nominated for, while Jubin Nautiyal was awarded Best Male Playback Singer for his song Dua from Article 370.
Amaal Malik expressed, "Such is the world we inhabit… It has been reduced to a farce." Jaan Kumar Sanu, the son of Kumar Sanu, remarked, "Dada, you transcend these awards, to be candid. We all hold you in high regard." Support from fans for the singer was also evident. One comment stated, "These awards are insincere and go to autotune. You surpass any accolades." Another added, "You are an award to them and to us… simply by being able to listen to you! Only a select few genuinely appreciate the divine gift we receive. In the same way, you are a blessing from Him! You are an award in your own right, sir."
When Rajasthan CM left Sonu Nigam's concert mid-way
In December of the previous year, during a performance at the Rising Rajasthan event, several political dignitaries, including Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, departed from the concert before its conclusion. The artist subsequently conveyed his disappointment through a social media post, stating, "During the performance, I noticed that the Chief Minister and others left. Once they departed, all the delegates followed suit. I urge all politicians: if you do not show respect for your artists, how can you expect the public to do so? If you must leave, please do so before the event begins. Exiting in the midst of an artist's performance is profoundly disrespectful and constitutes an affront to Saraswati."
The song "Mere Dholna 3.0" from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 achieved immediate success upon its release. Kartik Aaryan commended the singer, stating on X, "The entire climax that has garnered so much acclaim was the result of numerous elements coming together, with significant credit due to Sonu sir and his emotionally resonant voice. While I performed in front of the camera, it was his voice that truly created the heart-touching magic."
