Playback singer Sonu Nigam recently captivated his audience at DTU’s Engifest ’25. However, reports emerged stating that he interrupted his performance after some attendees threw stones at him. The singer has since refuted these claims and clarified the actual reason for the concert's pause.
Sonu Nigam clarifies no stones were hurled at him during recent concert
On March 25, Sonu posted on Instagram a photo of himself donning a bunny headband while singing at the festival. He stated, “Contrary to reports in some media, there was no throwing of stones or bottles at DTU. The only incident involved a vape that was thrown from the audience, striking Subhankar in the chest, and that was when I became aware of it.”
He elaborated, “I halted the performance and reminded the students that the show would need to be stopped immediately if such behavior occurred again. The only item thrown onto the stage afterward was the Pookie band, which was indeed Pookie…”
Fans responded to his explanation, with one commenting, “Thank you for the clarification in the caption! It’s disheartening to see items being thrown on stage. I hope Subhankar Ji is doing well…” Another remarked, “I appreciate the clarification, Mr. Pookie Nigam.” A further comment stated, “Thank you for this… I was quite concerned.”
Reports indicate that a portion of the large audience—over one hundred thousand students—began throwing stones and bottles at the stage, putting his team at risk. The report also mentioned that the singer paused the concert and appealed to the crowd, saying, “I am here for you so that we can all enjoy ourselves. I’m not asking you to refrain from having fun, but please don’t do this.”
What Sonu Nigam took away from his concert
In reference to his concert at DTU, Sonu Nigam posted a collection of images featuring himself in a black-and-white striped coordinated outfit, captioning it with, “I learned a new word at DTU – Pookie!” For those unfamiliar with the context, a fan tossed a bunny hairband onto the stage during the live performance, which Sonu donned and continued to perform while wearing it. This charming act endeared him to the audience, who subsequently cheered for him and affectionately referred to him as Pookie.
