Since the birth of her son Vayu, Sonam Kapoor's life has completely changed, and she feels a deep transformation through motherhood. As she goes through this new chapter, she shares that her child is her main focus. In a heartfelt moment, she also broke down while honoring the late Rohit Bal on the runway.

On the work front, Sonam is being more selective about the projects she takes on. She's all about teaming up with people she truly admires and enjoys collaborating with.

In a recent interview, Sonam opened up about her emotional tribute to the late fashion designer Rohit Bal during the Blenders Pride X FDCI Fashion Tour 2025 in New Delhi, as well as her experiences since becoming a mom.

Honoring Rohit Bal

This month, a fashion show honored Rohit, with Sonam Kapoor stealing the spotlight as the showstopper. She looked absolutely breathtaking in a flowing white gown, complemented by a heavily embellished ivory jacket. Her hair was elegantly tied back and decorated with red flowers. The moment was so emotional for Sonam that she was brought to tears while strutting down the runway.

For Sonam, being the showstopper in tribute to Rohit was incredibly personal, stirring up a whirlwind of nostalgia and feelings.

“He was someone I truly loved and admired. I’ve known him through my mom, who was very close to him, so he’s been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. It’s a deeply emotional experience, and I’m grateful to be here. The Blenders Pride Fashion Tour has done an amazing job of honoring his legacy and celebrating his remarkable impact on Indian couture,” Sonam shared.

Did Rohit Bal’s designs shape your style in any way? “Absolutely! I adore anarkalis. I’ve worn that white anarkali countless times for different occasions. His designs have been a part of significant moments in my life, and I believe he’s a key figure in how fashion is perceived in India, which has greatly influenced my style,” she reflected.

As she explores the world of fashion

Sonam's fashion journey has been all about trying new things, embracing risks, and making strong statements. She believes in showcasing her personality through her style choices.

"For me, self-expression is key, and if that comes off as bold, then that's fantastic. I'm all about going maximalist, but I also enjoy a more streamlined, masculine vibe. It’s really about the structure of the clothes and how they fit and look," she said.

Motherhood has shifted her focus

Sonam, who tied the knot with businessman Anand Ahuja, welcomed her son Vayu in 2022 and has fully embraced the journey of motherhood. She reflects on how this new role has significantly changed her life.

“Motherhood transforms you in every way—emotionally, physically, and mentally. It’s like you’re a whole new person. You become better, and everything just expands and improves,” Sonam explains.

When asked about how her priorities have shifted, she quickly replies, “Once you have a child, they become your top priority.”

As for balancing self-care with her roles as a mom and an actress, Sonam enjoys spending quality time with her friends.

About her journey in acting

Sonam was last spotted in the movie Blind, directed by Shome Makhija. This crime thriller, featuring Purab Kohli, Vinay Pathak, and Lillete Dubey in key roles, hit theaters in 2023. It marked Sonam's comeback to acting after taking a break for maternity. There are whispers that she’s signed on for a few new projects, but nothing official has been shared yet.

When it comes to picking new roles, Sonam is looking for parts that not only push her as an actress but also help her grow personally.

“Anything that helps you evolve as a person is important to me, and I prefer collaborating with people I enjoy working with. If I don’t vibe with someone, it makes it tough to work together,” Sonam shares, emphasizing her careful approach to choosing projects.

“Being selective means I’m really intentional about what I take on,” she concludes.
