The 2025 season of the Indian Premier League has commenced, and controversy has already emerged within days. During the match between the Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings on Tuesday, Punjab's Shreyas Iyer found himself controversially left just three runs shy of his century in his first game for the team. Following this incident, his teammate Shashank Singh faced backlash for allegedly denying Iyer the chance to reach the milestone. Additionally, the team's co-owner, actress Preity Zinta, shared her thoughts on Iyer's performance.

On Tuesday, Preity utilized social media to post several images of the players from the match. Punjab triumphed over Gujarat, largely due to Iyer's performance, which also earned him the Player of the Match title. In her congratulatory message on X (formerly Twitter), Preity expressed, “What an amazing beginning to this tournament. Some 97s surpass a hundred. Hats off to @ShreyasIyer15 for demonstrating class, leadership, and aggression. I appreciated how the team functioned cohesively!”

Preity expressed her gratitude towards other contributors to the victory, including Shashank. In her tweet, she acknowledged, "A shout out to Vijaykumar Vyshak, Priyansh Arya, Marco Jansen @arshdeepsinghh & @Shashank2191."

At the start of the final over of Punjab's innings, Shreyas Iyer was on 97 runs. Shashank Singh scored 23 runs during that over but did not allow Iyer to take the strike to reach his century, which frustrated many fans. Nevertheless, Iyer later clarified that he had advised Shashank to play aggressively and not to focus on his own hundred.
