The actress disclosed that her cancer was identified at an early stage, allowing her to avoid chemotherapy. Soha expressed, “I have experienced loss within my family. We have faced challenging circumstances, as many do."
She continued, “My mother was among the rare individuals diagnosed with stage zero lung cancer, and she did not require chemotherapy or any other treatment. The tumor was surgically removed, and thankfully, she is doing well.”
Sharmila Tagore reveals she battled cancer
In 2023, Sharmila Tagore publicly discussed her experience with cancer for the first time during an episode of Koffee with Karan, where she was accompanied by her son, Saif Ali Khan.
Karan Johar expressed his desire for Sharmila to portray the character of Alia Bhatt's grandmother in the film, stating, “I had initially offered Sharmila ji the role that Shabana (Azmi) ji played in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. She was my top choice. Unfortunately, due to health issues at that time, she was unable to accept, which remains a regret for me."
In response, Sharmila explained, “This was during the peak of Covid. At that point, they had not fully understood the implications of the virus. Vaccines were not yet available, and we were unvaccinated. You see, this was after my cancer diagnosis, so they were concerned about the risks involved."
