Social Media Showdown: Hansal Mehta Hits Back at Anupam Kher's Claims on Manmohan Singh Film

A verbal conflict emerged between actor Anupam Kher and filmmaker Hansal Mehta regarding the 2019 film, The Accidental Prime Minister. The dispute was ignited when Hansal Mehta endorsed journalist Vir Sanghvi's tweet, which labelled the film as 'one of the worst Hindi movies.' In response, Anupam Kher referred to Hansal as a 'hypocrite.'
How Hansal reacted to Vir's tweet
Vir expressed on Twitter, "To recall the falsehoods propagated about Manmohan Singh, one should revisit The Accidental Prime Minister. It stands as one of the most poorly made Hindi films and exemplifies the manner in which media was employed to damage the reputation of an honourable individual." In response, Hansal commented, "+100."
Anupam and Hansel's fight over tweets
In response to Hansal's tweet, Anupam stated, "The individual exhibiting hypocrisy in this discussion is not @virsanghvi. He is entitled to his opinion regarding a film. However, @mehtahansal served as the #CreativeDirector for #TheAccidentalPrimeMinister and was present throughout the filming in England, contributing creatively and likely receiving compensation for his role. Therefore, for him to fully endorse #VirSanghvi’s remarks is quite contradictory and reflects a lack of integrity. While I do not necessarily concur with Mr. Sanghvi, it is important to acknowledge that we are all capable of producing subpar or mediocre work, and we must take responsibility for it. It is unbecoming of #HansalMehta to seek validation from a specific audience. Come on, Hansal! It's time to mature! I still possess all our videos and photographs from the shoot together."
Hansal stated, "I acknowledge my mistakes, Mr. Kher, and I am willing to admit that I erred. Is that not permissible, sir? I performed my duties to the best of my ability within the constraints I faced. Can you dispute that? However, this does not imply that I must continue to defend the film, nor does it compromise my objectivity regarding my misjudgment. Regarding the notions of seeking approval and hypocrisy, I must respectfully point out that you appear to be assessing others by the same standards you apply to yourself."
He further tweeted, "Additionally, @anupampkher sir, you are free to express your opinions. Feel free to label me as you see fit. I apologize if I have unintentionally caused you any distress. I extend my best wishes to you. Whenever you are ready, we can have a conversation to clarify matters. I refuse to allow trolls to manipulate this situation for their amusement at our expense. Wishing you a good night, belated Christmas greetings, and an early happy new year to you and all the overly active trolls."
