2 days ago | 5 Views
Snehil Dixit Mehra, a distinguished professional with 17 years of experience in the TV and OTT industry, has made a name for herself as a co-director and co-writer of the upcoming Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (2024), and has acted in popular series like Apharan (2018) and Bebaakee (2020). Despite her success, Snehil has faced several challenges, including instances of workplace harassment, which she recently shared in an insightful conversation.
Reflecting on her experiences, Snehil recalled a particular incident during a casting session when a senior colleague made an inappropriate comment about a girl, which went unaddressed at the time. She admitted, “I didn’t try and make anything of it and asked her to brush it off.” However, when the same person later made a lewd joke at her expense, Snehil decided to take action. She filed a complaint, which led to a discussion about the possibility of the person losing their job. Ultimately, she chose to settle for an apology, but the apology she received felt insincere. Snehil emphasized that these kinds of incidents were not isolated and shared that such uncomfortable situations persist, even as one becomes more established in the industry.
Addressing some of the criticisms she faces in the public eye, Snehil discussed how, despite her success, people continue to make hurtful comments. One particular example involved criticism for her participation in Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal's wedding celebration. She explained, “Someone said, 'Oh, so you were dancing so much at their wedding,' and I was like, yes, because I worked with them, I was invited, she is a friend, and she’s getting married to the love of her life." Despite the positive and celebratory nature of the event, she noted that it doesn’t take much for people to make a woman feel small with their hurtful remarks.
Looking to the future, Snehil expressed her passion for writing and her plans to continue pursuing it for as long as she can. She shared, "Inherently, I am a writer, I will never stop writing till I am 90 years old. Direction is an extension of writing, and now, as a natural progression, I will make a film or a project that is solely written and directed by me." With a strong vision for her career, Snehil is excited about the opportunities ahead as she continues to make her mark in the entertainment industry.
