Sky Force Box Office Claims Under Scrutiny: Director Responds to Block Booking Allegations

The box office performance of Akshay Kumar's Sky Force has come under scrutiny following allegations made by trade analyst Komal Nahta, who accused the film's producers of manipulating bookings to artificially enhance the film's box office figures. In response, the director of the film has publicly refuted these claims.

What were the accusations?

In a video statement, Komal accused the producers of Sky Force, featuring Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya, of monopolizing theater bookings to create a misleadingly positive impression of the film's box office results. He also made similar accusations regarding another production by Maddock Films, Chhaava, which stars Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna.

Sandeep defends

In an interview with News18, Sandeep Kewlani rejected the allegations directed at both Maddock films. He emphasized that the long-term success of a film is not determined by its box office earnings.

He stated, “Regarding Chhaava and Sky Force, our box office figures are entirely genuine, and there have been no block bookings involved. This reflects the audience's appreciation. It has been almost 20 days since the film's release, and I continue to receive daily messages on Instagram and Twitter from viewers who have enjoyed it. Our responsibility concludes once the film is completed and presented to the audience. The financial success of a film is not something that remains in public memory over time. For instance, if your favorite film is Munna Bhai and I inquire about its box office performance, you likely wouldn’t recall it today. Ultimately, the film's impact and its lasting impression are what truly matter.”

Sandeep remarked, “The concept of box office collection is merely a fleeting concern, lasting only 15 days to a month, after which it fades from public memory. There should not be a system in place for tracking collections. Why do we inform audiences about a film's earnings? Are we implying that a film is only deemed successful if it generates significant revenue? The financial performance of a film is not indicative of its quality. Ultimately, it is the audience who should determine their interest in viewing a film. This practice, initiated by industry analysts, is quite peculiar. A truly good film will attract viewers regardless of its box office performance. If a film grosses ₹300 crore but does not resonate with you, your opinion will remain unchanged by its financial success. The audience is well aware of their preferences and is indifferent to box office figures."

Block booking refers to the practice where a production company or actor acquires multiple tickets for their film.
