Sivakarthikeyan explains why he doesn't have a rule against smoking in his films
Sivakarthikeyan is definitely one of the top stars in Tamil cinema, having climbed to the top through hard work and commitment. He has some personal guidelines, one of which is to avoid smoking in his films.
In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Sivakarthikeyan discussed his no smoking rule for the screen. He pointed out that since kids are part of his audience, he wants to set a good example, but he made it clear that he doesn’t impose this rule on his directors.
He mentioned that he’s not a fan of using smoking as a way to glamorize things. "If the character, story, and narration make sense, then I’m on board. But if it feels generic, I’d rather pass. Honestly, I know I wouldn’t pull it off well. I’d be super nervous and self-aware. It shouldn’t feel forced, but I’m not telling directors not to write it either."
When it comes to playing villains, Sivakarthikeyan said he’s okay with smoking in those roles. Still, he needs the script and director to really sell him on it since he doesn’t feel confident enough to take on those characters.
