Actor Siddharth was among the distinguished guests at the recently concluded Hyderabad Literary Festival, where he engaged in discussions about cinema, his passion for literature, and various other topics. During a conversation with his mother-in-law, Vidya Rao, who is also the mother of fellow actor Aditi Rao Hydari, he elaborated on his decision to avoid portraying toxic male characters throughout his career.

Siddharth on avoiding ‘macho’ roles

Siddharth also took the opportunity to interact with the audience, addressing inquiries regarding his professional journey and his perspectives on life. In response to one question, he acknowledged that he might have achieved greater stardom had he accepted certain film offers.

He remarked, “I received scripts that involved me engaging in acts of violence against women, performing item numbers, or making inappropriate comments. While those films could have been commercially successful if they had strong narratives, I chose to decline them. I might have been a much larger movie star today had I been inclined differently. I followed my instincts and pursued what resonated with me.”

Furthermore, Siddharth expressed his satisfaction when individuals approach him, recognizing him as someone who is both ‘charming’ and ‘respectful towards women.’ He stated, “People often tell me that I treated women with respect, showed kindness to parents, and was good with children. It is heartening to know that their children are now watching my films from 15 years ago. This feeling of appreciation is invaluable and cannot be quantified in monetary terms. While many around me were adopting an aggressive and macho persona, I found joy in expressing vulnerability on screen.”

Siddharth initially rose to prominence through his performances in films such as Boys, Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, and Rang De Basanti. He recently produced the 2023 film Chithha, which addresses the issue of child abuse. Having appeared in Indian 2 and Miss You in 2024, Siddharth is set to feature in Indian 3 and Test in the near future.
