Shweta Basu Remembers Intense Bullying on Telugu Film Set: 'The Protagonist Consistently Faltered in Scenes'

Actor Shweta Basu Prasad recently disclosed that throughout her extensive career in the film industry, she encountered bullying on only one film set. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, she mentioned that during the production of a particular Telugu film, she faced persistent bullying regarding her height, as her co-actor was significantly taller.

Shweta was inquired about her experiences with bullying related to her appearance. The actress acknowledged that she was "genetically fortunate due to her parents," yet she faced bullying for an aspect beyond her control. She recounted, "During the filming of a particular Telugu movie, the entire crew would remind me daily about my height. My co-star was significantly taller; I stand at 5'2", while he was around 5'11" or nearly 6 feet."
She highlighted the irony that the male lead was not criticized for his inadequate command of Telugu, while she was targeted for her height. "He would struggle with every scene, requiring multiple retakes, and despite being Telugu, he could not speak the language well. I, too, faced challenges but was managing. It perplexed me that I was being judged for something beyond my control, a trait that is purely genetic. It was the only instance where I experienced severe bullying."
Shweta Basu’s career
Shweta has not disclosed the title of the Telugu film; however, she has participated in several throughout her career. She made her debut in this language with the 2008 film Kotha Bangaru Lokam and subsequently appeared in movies such as Ride, Kasko, Kalavar King, Priyudu, and Genius. Her most recent Telugu film was Vijeta, released in 2016. Additionally, she has worked in both Hindi and Tamil cinema.
Her Hindi series, Oops Ab Kya, will be available for streaming on JioHotstar starting February 20. In 2024, she featured in Tribhuvan Mishra: CA Topper and Zindaginama.
