Actor Shruti Haasan opened up about the years when she had to witness the breakup of her parents, Kamal Haasan and Sarika. In an interview with Filmfare, Shruti expressed that she never felt ‘entitled’ as a person from a family of actors, as she was ‘humbled’ at an early age herself. Her parents split and divorced in 2004.

What Shruti said

During the interview, when Shruti was asked if she ever felt ‘privileged and entitled’ growing up, she replied, “No, because many people don’t know what transpired in my life before I entered the film industry. I was humbled by life due to my parents’ separation. We were not residing in a large mansion, and when my mom chose to leave, we moved from Chennai to Mumbai. It wasn’t easy. I appreciate those lessons because I discovered that you can transition from a Mercedes to a local train… very quickly in life. Both are experiences that you can gain knowledge from. ”

‘I was a bit attitude-y’

She continued to say, “When I entered the film industry, by then I had re-established my relationship with Appa, and I went to study music overseas. However, I always felt the desire for my own space and wanted to earn my own income and seek my own independence. I exhibited a bit of an attitude, but upon reflection, it did not stem from a belief that I was superior. Instead, it originated from a place of fear and feelings of inferiority, while I was projecting confidence. ”

Shruti's parents, Kamal and Sarika, were wed from 1988 to 2004. They have two daughters, Shruti and Akshara Haasan.

Shruti will next appear in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie. The action thriller is being produced by Kalanithi Maran's Sun Pictures and also features Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Soubin Shahir, Sundeep Kishan, and Reba Monica John.
