Since his return to India following surgery in Miami to remove a cancerous bladder and construct a new one, Shivarajkumar has engaged with the media to discuss the medical procedures he experienced both in India and the United States. The surgery in Miami proved successful, and the actor is currently free of cancer; however, there was a moment when Shivanna, as he is affectionately known, contemplated forgoing the treatment.
During a discussion with esteemed journalist B Ganapati on his podcast, Shivanna revealed that after undergoing two procedures and facing the possibility of a third, he felt somewhat unsettled regarding his health. Until that point, he had been unaware of the severity of his condition, a fact disclosed by his wife, Geetha Shivarajkumar, during the same conversation.
Geetha Shivarajkumar shared insights into Shivarajkumar’s battle with cancer, stating, "He’s been fighting it since March of last year..."

Shivarajkumar: When I heard it was cancer, I was cranky and began crying too
Geetha, along with their daughter Niveditha and son-in-law Dilip (Nirupama’s husband), had persuaded Shivanna to believe that his urinary problems stemmed from an infection. However, when cancer reemerged following the second surgery and began to spread aggressively, they had no alternative but to reveal the truth. “Upon learning it was cancer, I felt irritable and started to cry. I even contemplated whether to pursue treatment or simply let it be and see how long I could endure. I had temporarily lost hope and thought I had reached my limit. After two surgeries and the associated treatments, I was exhausted,” he recounted.
As he prepared to begin another round of chemotherapy, Shivanna expressed doubts about its effectiveness and pondered the consequences if it failed. It was Geetha who instilled in him the determination to persevere. “She encouraged me by saying, ‘We’ve come this far, let’s see how the next step unfolds,’” the actor recalled. It then occurred to him that, despite being ready for an alternative outcome, he had to continue living for the sake of his family. His sole stipulation was that he wished to complete his upcoming film, 45, fulfil his commitments on Dance Karnataka Dance, and finish a few advertisements before proceeding with the next phase of treatment.

Shivanna expressed that he felt apprehensive before his initial round of chemotherapy, uncertain about the experience. However, the process proceeded without complications, and he experienced no side effects, enabling him to return to filming for "45" within a few days, including an action sequence. “I was also concerned about potential hair loss, but fortunately, that did not occur. Following the second chemotherapy session, I underwent a PET scan, and the results were promising; the progression of the cancer had been effectively managed. This brought me a sense of relief,” the actor remarked, noting that the encouragement from his family and friends significantly aided him in coping with his diagnosis and managing the treatment.
