In addition to his professional endeavours, Shatrughan Sinha frequently made headlines due to his personal life. During the height of his career in the 1980s, he was romantically involved with two women. He was linked to his co-star Reena Roy while simultaneously announcing his marriage to Poonam Sinha. Recently, in an interview with Lehren Retro, Shatrughan Sinha acknowledged his dual relationships with both his wife and Reena Roy.

When asked by the interviewer, "A man with two women in his life is often seen as fortunate, yet he must navigate various challenges. How do you reflect on that period when both Reena Roy and Poonam were significant in your life?" Shatrughan responded, "I prefer not to mention names. However, I am thankful to all the women who have been part of my journey. I hold no resentment towards anyone. I always wish them well, as they have contributed to my growth and development as an individual."

He further remarked, "I have certainly made errors in my life. It is only natural for a young man, who travelled from Patna, to become overwhelmed by the allure of the industry. I was unprepared to navigate the complexities of fame. Many individuals lose their way in such circumstances. I lacked a mentor to provide guidance. However, after Poonam entered my life, she offered me significant support." Reflecting on his experience during a love triangle, the veteran actor stated, "I prefer not to mention names, but I am thankful for the experiences I had with this individual. I have received immense affection from her and have gained valuable insights. I hold no grievances."

Shatrughan Sinha also acknowledged that juggling multiple commitments can adversely affect one's mental well-being, stating, "When a person possesses a good heart and is involved in two committed relationships at the same time, he endures considerable distress regarding his mental and physical health. There is a sense of guilt that accompanies this situation. When you are with your partner, you feel remorse for your spouse at home, and when you are with your spouse, you feel regret for your partner: 'Why am I treating her like a mere plaything?'"

He remarked that the emotional turmoil in a love triangle affects not only the women involved but also the man, stating, "I wish to emphasize that it is not solely the women entangled in the love triangle who experience distress; the man suffers as well. He finds himself grappling with the situation, even when he desires to extricate himself from it."

Shatrughan Sinha first encountered his co-star on the set of Kalicharan and subsequently appeared in films such as Milap, Sangram, Sat Sri Akal, and Chor Ho To Aisa. Their bond deepened during their collaborative projects. However, Shatrughan Sinha later revealed his intention to marry Poonam Sinha. In his memoir, Anything But Khamosh, he recounted that mere hours before his wedding to Poonam, he was in London for a stage performance alongside Reena. Reflecting on his choice, the esteemed actor once conveyed to Rajiv Shukla, "There are moments in life when one arrives at a crossroads where making a decision is exceedingly challenging. Yet, once a decision is reached, it may not always align with everyone's interests."
