Shama Sikandar felt burnout after 6 years of working on TV

Shama Sikander told Pinkvilla that she was burnt out after six years of working on TV. "I had worked without a break for quite a long time, and it started to take a toll on my mental health," she explained. Shama revealed that she stopped socializing in the early 2000s, which made her further depressed. "I was going through depression and even tried to commit suicide but thankfully, my parents saved me at the nick of the time," the actress, seen in Baalveer (available on SonyLIV via OTTplay Premium) revealed. Talking of the industry's unrealistic expectations, Shama shared, "It requires you to be what they perceive of you and slowly and steadily you lose yourself completely in the darkness."

Shama Sikander had just ventured into OTT soon after

Shama quit TV and ventured into OTT. She made her debut in Vikram Bhatt's web original, Maaya. The show came at a time when the OTT genre was still just being explored in India. Needless to say, Shama received grabbed a lot of eyeballs with her role in the series. The same is one of her most popular roles to date.

Shama Sikander would continue working on OTT, never go back to TV

In the same interview, the actress spilled that she loves working on OTT but added that she would not overwork herself any further.

Shama would not return to TV because the actors cannot take even a day's break on the platform, and the new her wishes to have at least one day of the week to herself and her family. "I'd love to spend at least one day with my close ones and cherish moments that help my soul," she signed off.
