If Sujoy Ghosh is truly occupied with a project unrelated to directing Shah Rukh Khan's forthcoming film King, as speculated, this will soon be confirmed. According to a report from Mid-Day, the director is currently working with Shahid Kapoor on a thriller.

Shahid Kapoor's interest and scheduling changes

Sources informed the tabloid that the actor had contemplated the screenplay; however, the timing was not appropriate. Currently, aligning their schedules and bringing the project to fruition are the primary concerns for Kapoor and Ghosh.

The storyline remains undisclosed; however, considering the director's history with suspenseful narratives, such as Kahaani (2012), featuring Vidya Balan, and Jaane Jaan (Kareena Kapoor Khan's debut on Netflix India), it is reasonable to infer that the film is likely a thriller.

Kapoor has previously engaged with this genre as well. Even during his initial romantic lead roles, he effectively executed suspenseful sequences in Fida (2004), directed by Ken Ghosh. Subsequently, in 2006, he appeared in 36 China Town, a quintessential mystery crafted by Abbas-Mustan. The actor also participated in the heist thriller Badmaash Company (2010) and Haider (2014), directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. Last year, he was featured in the action thriller Bloody Daddy, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, available on JioCinema. In 2023, Shahid made his debut in the OTT space with the thriller series Farzi on Prime Video India, created by Raj & DK. His upcoming projects include the action film Deva, directed by Rosshan Andrews, and another film by Vishal Bhardwaj.

Team denial of collaboration rumours

Kapoor's team, however, refuted on the morning of December 30 that he was engaged in discussions with Ghosh regarding a project of this nature.

The filmmaker has reportedly chosen not to direct King, a crime drama he developed for Shah Rukh Khan. Instead, Siddharth Anand will take over the directorial responsibilities. The film features Shah Rukh in a role that aligns well with his age, and it marks Suhana Khan's debut on the big screen. Abhishek Bachchan plays the primary antagonist, alongside co-star Abhay Verma. As per reports, the film is set to be released in theatres during Eid in 2026, where it will compete with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War. The production is being handled by Red Chillies Entertainment, the company owned by Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan.
