Shahid Kapoor won over the hearts of the nation with his romantic role in Vivah, which hit theaters back in 2006. Now, as he celebrates a decade of marriage with Mira Rajput, he reflected on how his views on arranged marriages have evolved over the years. In a chat with Screen, Shahid admitted that he used to find the arranged marriage scenes in Vivah pretty amusing, but these days, he’s all for them.
Shahid's words
During the interview, Shahid shared his experience filming Vivah, saying, “Vivah was like my rehearsal. I never expected anything like this to happen in my own life. While we were shooting, I would tell my friends, ‘How can anyone actually have an arranged marriage? It’s just so odd.’ I found some of the scenes pretty hilarious – like when she brings the tea and says ‘jal’ (water). I asked Sooraj ji, ‘What’s with the ‘jal’, man?’ He just told me, ‘Just go with it; you have no idea how people live in the rural parts of India.’”
It turned out great for both me and Mira
He mentioned that he's now a fan of arranged marriages. "I'm really into arranged marriages. They worked out great for me and Mira. Honestly, I never thought I'd end up in one when I was younger."
Shahid and Mira tied the knot in 2015 when she was only 21. She graduated from Delhi University, and their parents set them up through the Radha Soami Satsang Beas. They now have two kids—a daughter named Misha and a son named Zain.
On the work side, Shahid's next project is the action drama Deva, which hits theaters on January 31.
