Shahid Kapoor: "Controversial Films Are No Longer Possible"
2 months ago | 5 Views
Shahid Kapoor received a lot of praise for his role in the highly regarded film Haider (2014), which highlighted the issues in Kashmir. Still, he believes that creating a politically charged film like that isn't really feasible these days.
Let's steer clear of those controversial movies
Vishal Bharadwaj’s Haider takes us back to 1995, a time when Kashmir was really struggling with militancy. The film turned out to be a big hit at the box office. One of the most memorable moments features Shahid Kapoor breaking down at his father's grave.
Recently, during a session at SCREEN Live in Mumbai, Shahid reflected on that intense scene. He shared, “When I was about to shoot that part, the camera was set pretty far away from me, giving me a lot of room. I didn’t want to use glycerin for tears. I was standing in front of a grave and asked if I could sit down, but they told me to stand for now and maybe sit later. Honestly, I can’t remember much from that shot. The only thing that sticks with me is how numb my hands felt, probably because I had them in ice. It was freezing! I also remember Vishal sir being there with me. They told me the shot had wrapped up a while ago.”
Haider is based on Shakespeare’s classic tragedy, Hamlet.
When asked during the session if making a politically charged film is still possible today, Shahid replied, “No. We can’t make controversial films anymore.”
Shahid Kapoor has a new movie on the horizon
Shahid is set to appear next in Deva. The movie follows Shahid Kapoor, a maverick cop who takes on a major case filled with twists, lies, and a risky conspiracy.
Pooja Hegde joins the cast as a journalist playing a key role. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews and produced by Zee Studios along with Siddharth Roy Kapur, the film hits theaters on January 31.
