Bollywood icons Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan have expressed their deep sorrow following the passing of the esteemed actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, a legendary figure in the Hindi film industry. He passed away on Friday morning at the age of 87.
Shah Rukh Khan took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to convey his condolences through a heartfelt tribute to 'Bharat' Kumar. In his message, the Om Shanti Om star stated, “Manoj Kumar ji created films that elevated our nation and our cinema, emphasizing unity with unparalleled sincerity. He was a true legend. His works defined an era and left an indelible impact on our film industry. Thank you, sir. You will forever be ‘Bharat’ to us.”
Aamir, Salman also paid tribute to the legend
In a heartfelt tribute, Aamir conveyed his sorrow and admiration through a statement, referring to the legend as an institution.
"Manoj Kumar was more than just an actor and filmmaker; he was a true institution. I have gained invaluable insights from his films, which often tackled significant social issues, resonating deeply with the everyday person. My sincere condolences go out to his family," Aamir stated.
Salman also expressed his grief on X (formerly Twitter), expressing gratitude to the actor-director for his remarkable contributions to cinema. "Manoj Kumar Ji… a genuine legend. Thank you for the unforgettable films and cherished memories…," Salman wrote.
About Manoj Kumar and his career
Born as Harikrishan Goswami on July 24, 1937, in Amritsar, Punjab, Manoj established himself as a prominent figure in Hindi cinema. His memorable performances in films such as Shaheed, Upkar, and Purab Aur Paschim struck a chord with audiences, reflecting deep patriotic sentiments.
Over the course of his career, Manoj gained recognition not only for his acting but also for his directorial work in films that celebrated national pride and unity. His significant contributions to Indian cinema garnered him numerous prestigious awards, including a National Film Award and seven Filmfare Awards across various categories.
In acknowledgment of his substantial impact on Indian arts, the Government of India conferred upon him the Padma Shri in 1992. His legacy was further cemented when he received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015, the highest honor in Indian cinema.
