Shabana Azmi on casting Jyotika in Dabba Cartel
At the trailer launch of Dabba Cartel, Shibani Dandekar discussed the casting of Shabana Azmi and Anjali Anand, emphasizing that no one else could adequately portray their roles. In contrast, Shabana Azmi expressed her reluctance regarding Jyotika's involvement in the series.
The esteemed actress remarked, "I attempted to exclude two actresses from this project. One of them is Jyotika, although she is unaware of this. I thought, why Jyotika? Let’s consider others instead. However, they insisted that my preferences would not alter their decision." Apologizing playfully by holding her ear, Azmi added, "I am truly thankful that you accepted the role, Jyotika. It would have deprived me of the joy of collaborating with you."
Shabana Azmi on working with younger generation
The ensemble cast of Dabba Cartel primarily consists of younger actors compared to Shabana Azmi. Reflecting on her experiences, she stated, "I cherish it. I feel fortunate to be in the right place at the right time. Working alongside younger individuals who bring entirely different perspectives is always invigorating, as we learn from one another. It is remarkable to realize that, after 50 years since I began my career, I am still engaged in work that I find fulfilling. I am particularly grateful for the opportunity to be in front of the camera."
Dabba Cartel showcases a talented ensemble cast, including Shabana Azmi, Gajraj Rao, Jyotika, Nimisha Sajayan, Shalini Pandey, Anjali Anand, Sai Tamhankar, Jisshu Sengupta, Bhupendra Jadawat, and Lillete Dubey. The series is brought to life by creators Shibani Akhtar, Gaurav Kapur, Akanksha Seda, and Vishnu Menon, with production by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidwani's Excel Entertainment, and direction by Hitesh Batia.
This series offers a novel perspective on drama and suspense, where a single unforeseen choice leads to significant repercussions for women and their families. Dabba Cartel is set to premiere on Netflix on February 28, 2025.
