Shabana Azmi and Rekha are among the most respected actresses in Indian cinema. Both are celebrated for their roles as powerful female characters in various films. In a chat with Filmfare, Shabana shared a memorable moment from a flight they took together, where a fan approached Rekha for an autograph. The way Rekha responded left Shabana quite surprised.

Shabana remembers the time a fan asked Rekha for her autograph

While chatting, Shabana recalled, “I have countless stories about Rekha. One moment stands out vividly. That’s when it hit me, ‘Ah, this is her public image!’ We were on a plane, just laughing and talking, when suddenly someone approached us and asked, ‘Excuse me, ma’am, could I get your autograph?’”

What happened next? Shabana shared, "At that moment, her expression shifted to that of a distant star. Then she said, ‘I’m talking, can you hold on for a second?’ I thought, ‘Wow! What a transformation!’ In that instant, I thought, 'This is how a star should act!' But she’s always been so warm and loving.”

Rekha hasn't taken on a film role since 2014, with her last theatrical appearance being in Super Nani, where she portrayed Bharti Bhatia. She frequently makes appearances at movie premieres and award shows.

On the work front, Shabana's most recent project was the Netflix series Dabba Cartel, which follows the journey of five middle-class women who launch a dabba service but get caught up in a drug cartel. The series also features Shalini Pandey and Jyotika in key roles. Up next, she will appear in Lahore 1947.
