Seth Rogen Dismisses James Franco’s Friendship Fallout Confession Amid Misconduct Lawsuit: ‘Wasn’t on My…’

Seth Rogen is not preoccupied with his strained relationship with James Franco.
In the years following Franco's resolution of a sexual misconduct lawsuit related to former students of his acting school, he openly acknowledged the loss of communication with Rogen, who had been both a close friend and creative collaborator. Nevertheless, Rogen has recently indicated that Franco's remarks did not significantly impact him.
Rogen unbothered by Franco’s public statement
In a recent interview with Esquire, Rogen addressed Franco's remarks regarding the end of their friendship. He stated, "Honestly, I absorb so little media that it really wasn’t on my radar," and chose not to provide further details.
In October 2024, Franco reflected on their estrangement, revealing that he had attempted to reconnect with Rogen without success. "I haven’t talked to Seth. I love Seth; we had 20 great years together, but I guess it’s over. And not for lack of trying. I’ve told him how much he’s meant to me," Franco shared with Variety.
Rogen and Franco initially crossed paths as teenagers on the short-lived television series Freaks and Geeks. Their collaborative efforts resulted in successful films such as Pineapple Express, This Is the End, and Sausage Party. However, their last joint project was The Disaster Artist, which Franco directed and starred in. The film garnered him a Golden Globe, but it was soon followed by controversy.
Sexual misconduct allegations against Franco
In 2018, several women accused Franco of engaging in sexual misconduct, including two former students from his now-closed acting school, Studio 4. The allegations suggested that Franco exploited his authority to coerce them into participating in explicit scenes, leading to feelings of objectification.
Initially, Franco refuted the claims; however, in 2021, he settled the lawsuit. Following this resolution, Rogen publicly distanced himself from Franco, stating, "I despise abuse and harassment and I would never cover or conceal the actions of someone doing it." He also affirmed that he had no intention of collaborating with Franco in the future.
Subsequently, Franco acknowledged that Rogen's choice to withdraw was painful yet understandable. In a conversation with Howard Stern, he remarked, "What he said is true. We aren’t working together right now, and we don’t have any plans to. It was hurtful, in context, but I get it."
