Selena Gomez seems to have discreetly taken shots at Justin Bieber in her recent album, I Said I Love You First, which includes contributions from Benny Blanco. Released on March 21, this album represents their first collaboration since the couple revealed their engagement last year.

Gomez throws subtle jabs at Bieber

In one of her songs, "How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten," Gomez expresses, "You’re so embarrassing / Go cry when no one’s watchin’ / I can’t imagine it / How does it feel to be forgotten (Ah), forgotten? (Ah-ah)." While the interpretation of lyrics is subjective, Bieber shared his emotional response on social media. The track also features additional lines: "Cause you walked in, big-ass grin / Talkin’ like we’re friends, honey, what were you thinkin’? / He loves me, I love him / Look at you, just look at you now."

As noted by Genius.com, a website dedicated to analyzing song lyrics, the phrase "Look at you, just look at you now" reflects a "similar interplay on words" found in her 2020 release "Look At Her Now." This song is thought to address her breakup with the singer known as Baby.

Gomez and Bieber's relationship was notoriously complicated, beginning in 2010 and marked by numerous breakups and reconciliations. Their on-again, off-again romance officially concluded in 2015, although they briefly reunited in 2017 before ultimately separating in early 2018 due to "trust issues." Later that year, Bieber married Hailey Baldwin. Given the tumultuous nature of their relationship, many fans interpret Gomez’s song "Don’t Wanna Cry" from her fourth studio album as a reflection of the emotional ups and downs experienced during her time with Bieber.

The lyrics include, "Left the door wide open for the whole wide world to see you / Then you kiss her right in front of me like I’m not even there / I should cause a scene for s**t you’ve done to me / The saddest part is we both know that I would never leave," as reported by Page Six.

Other tracks that hint the troubled relationship between Gomez and Bieber

Younger and Hotter Than Me is thought to illustrate Bieber's conflict involving two women, with Gomez alluding to her past when she was younger and more innocent. The lyrics mention, “Begging for more / X on my hand drawn in Sharpie / Now I use my own ID.” According to Genius.com, the X marked on the hand signifies the symbol used in clubs to identify underage individuals.

Nevertheless, the Wolves artist clarified in a Spotify interview, as reported by Page Six, that “The entire album does not solely revolve around my personal experiences.”
