Singer and actress Selena Gomez is currently captivating audiences with her latest album, I Said I Love You First, in collaboration with her fiancé, Benny Blanco. During a discussion with Jay Shetty on his podcast, Gomez opened up about the emotional baggage from her previous relationships and how her fiancé has supported her in overcoming it, guiding her towards rebuilding her trust.

In her reflections on past relationships and her extended period of being single, Selena shared, "For me, I often found myself being very reactive in previous situations. I believe that’s why I spent five years alone; I needed that time to gather myself. I often tell him that ten years ago, it’s not that I wouldn’t have wanted to be with you, but I simply wasn’t in the right mental state, and I don’t think you deserved the challenges I faced before. I’ve learned many lessons and made mistakes, and I just want this to be right."

Selena also disclosed that she previously grappled with the need to always be correct, a struggle she feels many women can identify with. However, she noted that Blanco has made her experience "unbelievably easy," particularly during frustrating moments. She explained that when she becomes upset, he is quick to validate her feelings, often saying, "I hear you, you're allowed to feel that." This supportive approach, she remarked, has significantly altered her perspective, helping her move away from the anger she used to experience in similar circumstances.

How Benny Blanco taught Selena to trust again

Selena recounted how Benny assisted her in regaining her trust, stating, "I find it quite challenging. As Benny mentioned, initially, I struggled with the idea of taking trips away. It made me feel uneasy... However, as I got to know him better, I felt comfortable expressing my concerns, saying, 'I just want to clarify—it's not that I don't trust you—could you please text me before you head to your next engagement?' He responded positively, without any defensiveness, simply saying, 'Of course, I can do that.' This open communication allowed me to gradually feel more at ease... Now, as I prepare to be away again for a shoot in New York, I feel ready for it. I believe it's manageable, though not particularly enjoyable. Ultimately, he has shown me how to trust once more."

Selena and Benny made their engagement public after six months of dating. They celebrated this happy milestone by sharing a collection of photos on Instagram on December 11, 2024, where the singer and actress proudly displayed her engagement ring.
