Janice was promptly taken into custody following the verdict, with the judge noting that her previous criminal record and involvement in the scheme significantly influenced the decision.
The judge characterized her as the "operator, fixer, and accountant" behind the fraudulent operations. As she was being led away, she blew a kiss to her daughter, who responded by mouthing, "I love you.
In a separate case, Sean, 35, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, was placed under immediate house arrest pending sentencing. The judge denied his request to travel to Texas for a scheduled performance, stating, “He's not going to Texas.”
Sean's legal representatives contested the decision to keep him incarcerated until sentencing, citing his heart condition and asthma as concerns. His sister is posting $200,000 to facilitate his release, while his aunt is offering her home as collateral.
Prosecutors referred to Sean and his mother as "masters of deception and fraud." Both were found guilty of one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud, with each charge carrying a potential maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
More about the fraud case
Prosecutors have charged Sean and his mother with orchestrating a scheme to acquire luxury items, such as a high-end SUV, jewelry, expensive watches, and a large television, without making any payments.
During the trial, authorities provided evidence indicating that the duo utilized counterfeit wire transfer receipts to substantiate their claims of payment. A significant piece of evidence included a text message from Sean to his mother stating, "I instructed you to create a fake receipt," followed by, "so it appears the transfer will arrive in a few days."
Sean was initially apprehended on May 23, 2024, at Fort Irwin, an Army training facility located in California's Mojave Desert, where he was stationed. He chose not to contest his extradition and was subsequently returned to Florida. Sentencing for both individuals is scheduled for July 11.
Sean gained fame with his 2007 single "Beautiful Girls," which reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Over the course of his career, he has released four albums and collaborated with notable artists such as Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, and Chris Brown.
