Songwriter, singer, composer, and poet Satinder Sartaaj is gradually enchanting Bollywood with his melodies, as evidenced by his captivating tracks like "Rang" and "Jalsa 2.0." Despite his rising fame, Satinder remains steadfast in his commitment to his heritage, firmly stating that he will never dilute his identity.

He plans to persist in integrating his poetic creations into his music, even as he navigates the intricate dynamics of the Bollywood industry. In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Satinder openly discusses his fervour for music, his experiences in Bollywood, and more.

Regarding live performances, his shows are celebrated for their vibrant energy and heartfelt passion. For Satinder, each performance serves as a spiritual experience. “I don’t merely sing; I convey my essence. The affection and enthusiasm from the audience motivate me, and in those moments, we share a profound connection,” he explains, highlighting his unique blend of poetry and music.

He is recognized for popular songs such as "Sai," "Sajjan Raazi," "Udaarian," "Rutba," "Tere Bina Na Guzara E," and "Ikko – Mikke."

When asked how he manages the pressures of live performances, particularly during extensive tours, he responds, “When you are passionate about your craft, it never feels burdensome. Performing is my means of conveying emotions and spreading love. While travelling can be exhausting, the affection from my fans and the vibrancy of each city invigorate me.”

On the audience throwing things on stage

Recently, artists have found themselves subjected to a variety of airborne objects during their performances, ranging from food and cell phones to shoes and clothing. This troubling trend has prompted several performers to voice their strong disapproval.

Satinder has been particularly vocal in denouncing this concerning phenomenon.

"Music serves as a medium for healing and unity, and I have consistently experienced love and respect from my audience. While such incidents may occur, I maintain that when an artist performs with genuine intent, the audience reciprocates with the same sincerity. While safety measures are essential, my belief in the power of music and the goodness of people instils confidence in me while on stage," states Satinder, who recently brought his live show, Mehfil E Sartaaj, to Delhi as part of Saregama Live’s The Sphere of Eminence Tour.

In this context, Satinder emphasizes the delicate balance between enthusiasm and safety, remarking, "The passion for music is admirable, but it must be accompanied by respect."

"Respect for the artist, the venue, and fellow attendees is crucial. Live concerts are meant to be shared experiences, and it is imperative that everyone feels secure. Promoting awareness and cultivating a culture of respect are essential," he adds.

On working in Bollywood

Recently, Satinder's music has reached unprecedented levels of acclaim, particularly after being featured in Bollywood productions.

"Music follows its own path, and I am thankful that my songs have resonated with so many people. Bollywood has an extensive audience, and when my music is included in a film, it allows my work to reach new listeners. I remain dedicated to my art, confident that it will find its audience," he states.

The artist acknowledges that Bollywood has significantly expanded his following, noting, "Bollywood provides artists with a global stage, and many new fans have discovered my music through films."

"However, my core remains unchanged; whether through films, albums, or live performances, I will always remain faithful to my poetry and origins," he adds.

Are there any forthcoming Bollywood projects that excite you?

"The schedule has not yet been confirmed, so I cannot disclose much at this moment. However, collaborating with artists from various regions is always thrilling. The creative process is continually evolving, and each partnership brings something fresh and enriching," he emphasizes, having recently appeared in the film Hoshiar Singh - Apna Arastu. Currently, he is preparing for his upcoming tour in Canada and the UK, which is set to commence on March 21.

"We are eager to share our music and experiences with audiences around the globe," he concludes.
