Shah Rukh Khan and Malaika Arora's song "Chaiyya Chaiyya" from the film "Dil Se" achieved remarkable success and continues to be cherished by music lovers. The vocalist of the song, Sapna Awasthi, recently shared her experiences in an interview with Bollywood Thikana, discussing how she secured the opportunity to perform the song and expressing her gratitude towards SRK for positively impacting her career.
Sapna on bagging Chaiyya Chaiyya
Regarding her acquisition of "Chaiyya Chaiyya," Sapna expressed, "I am immensely grateful to A.R. Rahman and Gulzar ji for providing me with such a monumental hit, something I had never envisioned. I also extend my thanks to Shah Rukh and Malaika Arora for contributing to the song's tremendous success." She recounted that upon receiving a call from A.R. Rahman’s manager, she initially suspected it was a joke. Nevertheless, she proceeded to the studio, where her aspirations were realized.
Sapna noted that she received no specific guidance for the song and was unaware that it would be filmed with SRK and Malaika. She reminisced about recording the track in merely half an hour, with the understanding that it would only be included if it met the approval of Rahman and Gulzar.
After performing "Sab Kuch Bhula Diya" from SRK and Madhuri Dixit’s "Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam," Sapna remarked, “Shah Rukh Khan has been incredibly fortunate for me. Singing his songs has sustained our livelihood. The compositions by Nadeem bhai and the music of Rahman saab have all significantly supported my career. They crafted songs that matched my vocal range, and the audience embraced them as hits.”
