Santhosh Narayanan’s Bold Gamble: Betting His Career on Laal Singh Chaddha

Music composer Santhosh Narayanan, recognized for his work in films such as Dasara and Jigarthanda Double X, recently disclosed that he once risked his music career based on the success of Laal Singh Chaddha. In an interview with Galatta Plus, he mentioned that he told Aamir Khan that if the film performed well, he would explore a new direction. Here’s what he stated.

Laal Singh Chaddha featured music composed by Pritam and a score by Tanuj Tiku. However, Santhosh was so taken by the film that he wished to change course in his own career if it succeeded. Pinkvilla translated his words as, “Aamir Khan had messaged me, indicating that he anticipated my presence at the screening of Laal Singh Chaddha. After I completed viewing the film, Aamir approached me and inquired whether I liked it. At that moment, I told him that if this movie succeeds, I’ll embark on a new path in my cinema journey. ”
He elaborated that if the remake of Forrest Gump had been executed well, he intended to pursue films similar to the one featuring Aamir. “If Laal Singh Chaddha does well, I would also begin to work on such films. I’ll choose a different route if it fails miserably. This is because I have complete faith in Aamir sir as a creator. Nevertheless, the film did not perform well upon its release,” the musician remarked. When the film flopped, Santhosh investigated the reasons behind its failure to better understand the audience's sentiments.

After providing the background score for Salman Khan's Sikandar, Santhosh collaborated on Karthik Subbaraj’s Retro, starring Suriya and Pooja Hegde in leading roles. The film revolves around a man from a violent background who vows to leave it all behind for his lover. However, the past has a tendency to resurface. Santhosh is also composing music for the Karthi and Krithi Shetty-starrer Vaa Vaathiyaar.
