In response to significant backlash, the controversial episode of India's Got Latent, which included participants such as Samay Raina, YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija, and Ashish Chanchlani, has been removed from YouTube. Initially available exclusively to members, the episode is no longer accessible in India.

Video off YouTube

The video gained widespread attention on Monday, with many criticizing Ranveer for his inappropriate comments regarding parents. Following these remarks, multiple complaints and a First Information Report (FIR) were lodged against Ranveer, Samay, Apoorva, and the production team of the show.

According to the Indian Express, the contentious segment was edited out after Ranveer issued an apology on social media. In his apology video, he also urged the show's producers to take the episode down.

It has now been confirmed that YouTube has removed the entire episode. Kanchan Gupta, Senior Advisor at the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, verified the removal and stated on X, “The ‘India Has Latent’ episode on @YouTube featuring obscene and inappropriate comments by Ranveer Allahbadia has been blocked following orders from the Government of India.”

What led to the stir

The controversy arose when Ranveer appeared on India's Got Latent. During a members-only segment of Samay’s show, he posed a provocative question to a contestant: "Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?"

This remark was met with widespread disapproval from social media users, who deemed it “vulgar.” The episode also included other content creators such as Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Mukhija on the judging panel.

An FIR was filed against Ranveer due to his comments. On Monday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis remarked that freedom of expression has its boundaries. Additionally, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) released a statement calling for stringent action against the two creators and demanded an immediate ban on the show.

In light of the intense criticism he faced, Ranveer issued a public apology via his social media platforms. Nevertheless, this has not alleviated the ongoing backlash directed at him.
