Samantha Ruth Prabhu talks about her father

Recently, Samantha opened up about her "strained" relationship with her father, Joseph Prabhu, and how it affected her self-worth. In an interview with Galatta India, she spoke about her struggle to seek legitimacy and how it affected her personal journey.

The actress said that all her life growing up, she had to fight for validation. "He actually told me, ‘You’re not that smart. This is just the standard of Indian education. That’s why even you can get a first rank.’ When you say that to a child, I really believed for the longest time that I’m not smart and not good enough," she added.

Samantha shared how she internalized her father's words and believed she wasn't smart or good enough. She gave an example of how these feelings influenced her in the early stages of her career. Speaking about her debut film Ye Maaya Chesave, she said that after the film's success, she struggled to accept the praise coming her way.

“I’m used to fighting for validation. Suddenly, all these praises were being showered on me, and I didn’t know how to accept it,” she said.

Speaking about overcoming her insecurities, Samantha said that it took her 10-12 years or more to realise that she is not perfect and never will be and also added that she realized that being imperfect is pretty cool too.
