Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu looked back on her 15-year journey in the industry since her first film, Ye Maaya Chesave, released in 2010. In a chat with TOI, she opened up about how she used to tie her self-esteem to her films' success and shared which roles she found a bit embarrassing.

Samantha shared that she’s feeling ‘happy’ these days, mentioning how ‘stressful’ it was when she was just focused on acting instead of juggling various responsibilities like she does now. When asked about the stress from her acting days, she explained that she linked her self-worth to how well her films performed.

She said, “It was tough because I connected my self-esteem to each film's success, which was out of my hands. Every Friday turned into a stressful time since my confidence relied on box office results. That was a disaster waiting to happen. Now, I see things more clearly and treat myself with more kindness.”

Samantha also admitted that there are moments when she looks back at some of her films and feels embarrassed by her performances. “The ones that make me cringe are the times I was trying too hard to fit in. At first, a lot of the glamorous roles didn’t really suit me. I was just trying to emulate my amazing peers—trying to look, act, and dance like them. Watching those performances now, I find them completely silly,” she said.

Latest projects

In 2023, she appeared in Shaakunthalam and Kushi, and in 2024, she took on a role in the Prime Video series Citadel: Honey Bunny. Currently, Samantha is working on a new web series called Rakt Brahmand: The Bloody Kingdom with Raj & DK, as well as a film titled Maa Inti Bangaram, which she’s also producing.

After making her debut, Samantha quickly became a popular choice in Telugu cinema's commercial films. She has been part of several successful movies like Brindavanam, Dookudu, Attarintiki Daredi, S/O Satyamurthy, and many others.
