Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu is committed to achieving equal pay for everyone involved in her film production, Tralala Moving Pictures. In a chat with Foodpharmer, she opened up about her experiences in projects where her salary was "dramatically different" from that of her male co-stars, despite having equally challenging roles.

Samantha's statement

In the interview, Samantha addressed the topic and mentioned, “I've worked on a lot of films where, for some reason, the pay varies significantly even though the number of days and the type of role are the same. I get that in big movies, the lead actor is what draws audiences to the theater, and I can see why there's a pay gap there. However, there are also projects where the roles are just as challenging, yet the pay difference remains quite noticeable.”

She added, “I've been in this industry for 15 years, and what I'm focusing on now is avoiding the mistakes I've seen. I can't change my past, but I can influence the future. If I don’t take action, who will? You need to stand up for the issues that matter to you. I truly believe that your purpose lies in the things that concern you. That’s been my guiding principle: my purpose is found in what troubles me. Everything I’m creating revolves around those issues.”

Samantha kicked off her production company, Tralala Moving Pictures, in December 2023. During a recent discussion at BIFFES about gender pay gaps in the film industry, Nandini Reddy shared that Samantha had mentioned she made sure everyone involved in her first project, tentatively named Bangaram, received equal pay.
