Angry Young Men: The Salim-Javed documentary series is finally out on Prime Video, and it's definitely worth the wait. All many wanted to know was the reason behind the infamous split between the legendary screenwriter duo. The three-episode series discusses their parting after years of successful collaboration.
Salman Khan recalls the atmosphere at home during the split
The documentary's third episode features Salman Khan, who describes the atmosphere at his home when he broke the news that Javed Akhtar had decided to end the partnership.
In the series, the superstar is heard saying, "I remember when the partnership broke up, so when dad came home, he was disturbed. I was sitting at the dining table in the hall, and he said, 'Javed and my partnership is... er, he wants to break off.'"
Salman even asked his father why he didn't say anything, to which Salim replied, "No."
The Tiger 3 actor recalled his father telling his mother Salma Khan, "It wasn't that I was walking to his house, and Javed was standing in the balcony, and he didn't like my walk. Or the track pants I was wearing—he didn't like them. He must have his reasons. If he wants to go, he wants to go. So that's all he said. That's all he said."
Salman also got emotional and shared, "Dad used to really love Javed Saab. And he was dad's closest friend."
Farhan Akhtar reflects on the impact of the split on both screenwriters
Even Farhan Akhtar recalled the split and stated, "I think they were more than friends. I don’t know how exactly to describe it. I think without any emotion, they were like brothers. But they were partners in the true sense. I think that’s probably the best way to put it. I’m sure it affected them both in terms of, you know, I mean, although you’ve done all this great work together, when you go off and start doing it by yourself, you’re again now needing to create an identity just for yourself. So you’re starting from zero. It’s not easy."
