Salman Khan on Self-Talk: "You'd Hate My Advice If I Spoke to You Like I Do to Myself"

In a candid discussion with his nephew Arhaan Khan, the son of Arbaaz Khan and Malaika Arora, along with his friends on the Dumb Biryani podcast, Salman Khan addressed the responsibilities associated with being the family patriarch. He reflected on the notion that, while it may be challenging to accept, the guidance provided by a family is rooted in a genuine desire for the well-being and success of its members. Drawing from his own experiences with his father, Salim Khan, Salman acknowledged that he initially struggled to grasp his father's counsel, but ultimately came to realize that the seasoned screenwriter's intentions were solely to support him.

Salman Khan on learning from his father, Salim Khan

The superstar emphasized the importance of respecting the head of the family, noting that others often show little concern for their struggles or failures, regardless of whether they are family members or loved ones. Consequently, individuals may express their opinions in a manner reminiscent of Salman's past experiences with his father, often saying things like, "Do not pursue this," "You will face consequences," and similar admonitions. Salman's challenge with his father at that time stemmed from his inability to comprehend how Salim could be right while Salman was entirely wrong. This realization was crucial for the superstar's personal growth.

Salman Khan expressed that he holds himself to a high standard when providing advice, acknowledging that individuals have diverse needs for encouragement. He noted that while some individuals benefit from affirmation, others may need constructive criticism, and some might respond better to blunt honesty. He emphasized that understanding the appropriate balance between directness and kindness is essential for effectively supporting others.

Salman Khan's approach to giving advice

If Salman were to offer advice to others today—similar to the counsel he gives himself—he would likely be met with disdain, as he is notably harsh in his self-assessment. He engages in confrontational dialogues with himself in both Hindi and English, often expressing sentiments such as, "Ke upar waale ne saaley tujhe itna kuch diya hai, and this is what you are doing?" (The one above has granted you so much, and this is how you are responding?)—yet he has ultimately become that very individual.

Salman risks distancing himself from others if he persists in his current mode of communication. It is essential to consider the needs of others by asking, "Does this person seek encouragement?" Alternatively, does this individual crave validation? Would he rather receive comforting untruths or a candid presentation of the facts? One might choose to reassure him by stating, "No, no, everything will be fine," and gradually foster that belief.

On the professional side, Salman is set to appear in the film Sikandar, which is scheduled for release during the Eid 2025 weekend.
