In 2016, the film Sanam Teri Kasam was initially released; however, it did not achieve significant success at the box office. Featuring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, the film was re-released in theaters on February 7, 2025, where it garnered considerable affection and attention from audiences, ultimately becoming one of the highest-grossing films. In light of this, director Vinay Sapru was inquired about his casting choice had the film been produced in the 1990s, to which he responded that he would have selected Salman Khan. He elaborated on his reasoning for believing that Salman would have been an ideal fit for the role.

In an interview with India Today, filmmaker Vinay Sapru was questioned about who would have portrayed the male lead in Sanam Teri Kasam had it been produced in the 1990s. He responded, "Without a doubt, it would have been Salman Khan."

Elaborating on his reasoning, the filmmaker explained, "His eyes convey a sense of innocence, and the manner in which he gazes at and embraces the female lead reflects a purity of thought and emotion—he epitomized the ideal romantic hero of that time, making him our perfect Inder."

Regarding the female lead, Sapru expressed that a newcomer would have been an excellent choice. He noted that Salman has a unique ability to make his co-stars shine due to his own exceptional presence.

"Any actress we might have cast alongside him would undoubtedly be remarkable, and naturally, it would be a newcomer. His mere presence enhances the appeal of his leading ladies. He epitomized the romantic hero of the 1990s," Vinay further commented.

Vinay Sapru on collaborating with Salman Khan

When inquired about the possibility of collaborating with Salman once more, Sapru conveyed his respect for the actor, stating, "Who would not wish to work with Salman sir? He has been a superstar for more than 30 years, and his enduring success is unparalleled." 

He further mentioned, "We are simply awaiting the appropriate script and the right moment. Whenever our mentor chooses, it would be a privilege to collaborate with him again."

The writer-director team of Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru recently discussed the sequel, Sanam Teri Kasam 2, during an interview. They mentioned that Shraddha Kapoor has been suggested by fans as a potential female lead opposite Harshvardhan Rane. In response to this, Radhika remarked, “Please tag Shraddha.”
