Sanam Teri Kasam is getting a fresh start after its re-release, and director Vinay Sapru, part of the duo Vinay Sapru-Radhika Rao, has shared his sincere thanks to Bollywood superstar Salman Khan for his backing during a tough time when the film first came out.

Vinay share

In a chat with DNA, Vinay opened up about the film's flop during its initial release on February 5, 2016.

He mentioned, “We really poured our hearts into this film and felt pretty good about it. But the studio didn’t bother to promote it. Harsh (Harshvardhan Rane) and Mawra (Hocane) would go to the studio every single day, just hanging out there, but nothing came of it. Whenever I asked them what they accomplished, they’d just say they sat around all day. Even with some great songs, there was zero buzz. People didn’t even know when it was coming out.”

The director also shared that one studio pulled out, leaving them scrambling for solutions. That’s when Salman Khan stepped in to lend a hand.

He recounted, “I met Salman and told him about the film’s release. He asked, ‘When’s it coming out?’ and I said, ‘In four days.’ He was shocked and said, ‘Your film has no buzz, and you’re releasing it? Why didn’t you come on Bigg Boss to promote it?’ After I explained our situation, he immediately asked, ‘How can I help, Vinay ji?’ We asked him to tweet our trailer, and he did it right away. That’s what true friendship is all about. I’m really thankful he was there for us during such a tough time.”

Here's a quick overview of the movie

A romantic drama, Sanam Teri Kasam first hit theaters in 2016. Even though it had a decent budget of ₹14 crore, it didn’t quite resonate with viewers, only raking in ₹9.1 crore at the box office, which led to it being considered a commercial flop. This film marked the Bollywood debuts of Harshvardhan and Mawra Hocane, telling a touching love story that ends on a sad note. It made a comeback in theaters on February 7 and has been doing pretty well.

As per Sacnilk, the film has achieved the highest weekend earnings for a Bollywood re-release. It earned around ₹3-3.25 crore on Monday, bringing its total earnings to ₹18.50 crore, which is more than double what it made during its original run.
