Bishnoi community burnt effigies of Salim Khan and Salman Khan

Members of Jaipur's Bishnoi community burnt effigies of actor Salman Khan and his father, screenwriter Salim Khan, on October 26. Community leaders said they were angered by the 'misleading' statement of Salim Khan where he stated that Salman was not there during the 1998 blackbuck poaching case. For the unversed, the blackbuck is considered sacred by the Bishnois.

"We are Bishnois, we do not defame anyone just like that. When the case was registered 26 years ago, many dignitaries, including the then MLA of the Bishnoi community, were present. Salim Khan cannot mislead people by giving false statements. The entire community was hurt by Salim Khan's statement. We will make all-out efforts to ensure justice was delivered in the Blackbuck case. We will also protest by taking to the streets," the group said in a statement.

The pictures of the community burning the effigies are doing rounds on X (formerly Twitter).

Lawrence Bishnoi's cousin claims Salman Khan offered money to the Bishnoi community, but they refused

In an interview with NDTV, Lawrence Bishnoi's cousin brother, Ramesh demanded an apology from Salman Khan regarding the blackbuck hunting case.

He said that the actor's family is playing with their religious sentiments and the law will take its course if the actor does not apologize. He also added that their society loves trees and wildlife and 263 of their ancestors sacrificed their lives to save trees. "When Salman Khan killed the blackbuck, every Bishnoi's blood was boiling," he said.

"But if the community was made fun of, then it is natural for the society to get angry. Today, the entire Bishnoi community stands with Lawrence in this matter," he further added.
