Promotion for Salman Khan's upcoming movie, Sikandar, is in full gear. The superstar opened up about the film, his personal life beyond acting, and the challenges Bollywood is encountering due to the pandemic in a recent media group chat.
Salman Khan's straightforward views on box office flops
Salman bluntly stated, "When movies like these are made, they’re definitely going to fail." He added, "Even my own film—if it doesn’t succeed, then it’s just a bad film. But if it does well, then it’s a great film."
Salman, who hasn't had a hit since 2018's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, believes that movie stars need to own up to their films' failures. He feels that the person featured on the poster or on screen is the star and should be held responsible if the film doesn't do well.
With over 30 years in the industry, Salman pointed out that the quality of work has declined. He mentioned that producers are in competition with each other, just as directors are competing among themselves.
The audience has changed with the rise of OTT platforms
Everyone seems eager to demonstrate how movies are created, but the real goal is to craft a film for the audience. You need to write it as if you're in the front row, fully enjoying the experience. Don't assume they won't get it; that's a slippery slope to spoon-feeding them. The audience has evolved, especially with OTT platforms giving them access to a wide range of films from all over.
Salman further pointed out that nowadays, all it takes to make a film is an actor's availability or some financial support. He remarked, "Our directors and producers are often motivated by the wrong reasons. My dad reminded me just the other day that a film should only be made when you have the absolute best script."
Salman Khan's positive outlook on the future of Hindi films
Salman wrapped things up on a positive note, sharing his belief that Hindi cinema will overcome its present challenges.
Sikandar, directed by AR Murugadoss, is set to premiere on March 30 and stars Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna in the main roles.
