Sajid Khan Opens Up: 'I Contemplated Suicide Many Times' Amid MeToo Allegations and Career Setbacks
2 days ago | 5 Views
Filmmaker Sajid Khan, who had maintained a low profile away from the media and public scrutiny for an extended period, recently made an appearance on Bigg Boss 16. His life dramatically changed following allegations of sexual harassment from several women during the MeToo movement in 2018. The fallout from these accusations resulted in the loss of his professional opportunities. At that time, he was in the midst of directing Akshay Kumar's Housefull 4 but was subsequently replaced by Farhad Samji. Years later, Khan has chosen to speak out about these events in a recent interview, revealing that he even considered suicide in light of the MeToo allegations. Further details can be found below.
Sajid Khan recalls losing work and selling his house
In a recent conversation, Sajid Khan, the brother of choreographer-director Farah Khan, disclosed that he has been unemployed as a result of the Me Too movement. He further mentioned that he had to sell his house and relocate to a rented apartment due to a lack of income. Sajid expressed, "Over the past six years, I have contemplated ending my life on numerous occasions. The situation has been exceedingly difficult, as I have remained out of work, even after receiving a clearance from the Indian Film and Television Directors Association (IFTDA). I am striving to regain my footing. The absence of earnings forced me to sell my house and move into a rented flat."
'I was known for my offensive humour'
Sajid also reflected on his replacement by Farhad Samji as the director of Sajid Nadiadwala's Housefull 4. He stated, "I departed from Housefull 4 because I wished to avoid any scheduling conflicts. The producer, Sajid Nadiadwala, had constructed an elaborate set with 10 to 15 engaged actors. Altering the schedule would have caused significant disruptions to the film for an extended period. My experience was a media trial, heavily biased against me. What does a person strive for? Respect. When that is stripped away, it casts doubt on one's self-respect." Additionally, he expressed his belief that taking offence was the best form of defence, not realizing that his statements would lead to such severe consequences.
Sajid Khan reveals hiding the truth from mom Menaka Irani
During the interview, Sajid revealed that he had kept the truth hidden for ten days in order to safeguard his mother's well-being. He mentioned that he requested Farah to keep the newspapers away from her, fearing that the news might trigger a heart attack. The director of Heyy Baby further stated, "I have never, and will never, speak ill of any woman. However, the past six years have been a time of introspection."
Meanwhile, Sajid Khan is set to return to the director's chair with a new project. A film titled 100% was announced in 2022 starring Nora Fatehi, Shehnaaz Gill, John Abraham, and Riteish Deshmukh. But there is no development on that front as of now.
