Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman experienced dehydration and was admitted to a hospital in Chennai on Sunday. Following a routine examination, the hospital later announced that he had been discharged.

His wife, Saira Banu, has issued a statement expressing her hopes for his swift recovery while also addressing the public's perception of their relationship, clarifying that she should not be referred to as Rahman's ex-wife, as they are not officially divorced. The couple had announced their separation in November of the previous year.

What Saira Banu said

Saira Banu released her statement through their shared attorney, Advocate Vandana Shah, according to news agency ANI. The statement conveyed, "I wish A.R. Rahman a speedy recovery. I learned that he experienced chest pain and underwent angioplasty. Thankfully, he is doing well now. I want to emphasize that we are not officially divorced; we are still husband and wife. Our separation was due to my health issues over the past few years, and I did not want to add to his stress. I kindly ask everyone not to refer to me as his ex-wife."

Announcement of separation

A.R. Rahman and Saira Banu announced their separation last year after 29 years of marriage. In a statement released by Vandana, they noted, "After many years together, Saira and A.R. Rahman have made the difficult choice to separate. This decision follows considerable emotional strain in their relationship." The couple, who married in 1995, share three children: Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen.

In the meantime, their son A.R. Ameen provided a health update on his father through his Instagram Stories, stating, "To all our dear fans, family, and well-wishers, I sincerely thank you for your love, prayers, and support. My father felt a bit weak due to dehydration, which prompted us to conduct some routine tests. I am pleased to report that he is doing well now. Your kind words and blessings mean a great deal to us. We truly appreciate your concern and ongoing support. Much love and gratitude to you all."
