Actor Saif Ali Khan confronted his assailant single-handedly, without any weapons. In contrast, the assailant was equipped with two knives. In a recent interview, the actor revealed that he and his domestic aide nearly pursued the intruder with ceremonial swords, but were ultimately restrained by his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor.
Saif Ali Khan and house help armed themselves with swords
Saif recounted an incident in which he and his domestic aide, Hari, retrieved two ornamental swords after confronting an assailant. However, they ultimately chose not to employ them. He remarked, "It felt like a scene from a movie, with me drenched in blood as we took two decorative swords from the wall. That was the image Taimur witnessed – me, bloodied, and Hari, the other domestic worker, wielding the swords. It was somewhat heroic, at least in that fleeting moment (laughs). We contemplated pursuing him, but Kareena interjected, saying, ‘No, we need to leave! We must get you to a hospital, and I need to ensure Jeh is safe, as I sense the intruder may still be nearby, and there could be others.’"
In the same discussion, the actor expressed his conviction against keeping weapons in the home, emphasizing that the swords were merely ornamental and ceremonial. Regarding the presence of firearms at home, Saif Ali Khan stated, "I no longer subscribe to that belief. I worry that a child might access it, leading to unforeseen issues. There are indeed firearms present in Pataudi. Many individuals, including Rajwaras and Rajasthanis, have reached out to me, astonished that the intruder managed to escape. My father used to keep a shotgun by his bedside. Yet, I believe that accidents often occur because of the presence of a firearm. Young children could easily play with it, and one can only imagine the potential consequences."
Saif Ali Khan's recovery
Saif was hospitalized at Lilavati Hospital for five days, during which he underwent two surgical procedures. The medical team indicated that they needed to remove a fragment of the knife from his back and address a leak in his spinal fluid. He was released from the hospital on January 21. Earlier this month, he made his first public appearance following the attack at a Netflix India event. With his neck wrapped in bandages and his hand in a cast, Saif took the opportunity to promote his forthcoming film, Jewel Thief, which also features Jaideep Ahlawat.
