On Thursday, Saif Ali Khan provided a statement to the Bandra police regarding the traumatic incident in which he was stabbed at his residence in Mumbai on January 16 by an intruder. Details of the attack on Saif Ali Khan and his family
The distressing sounds prompted them to rush to their son's room, where they encountered the alleged assailant. The nanny, Eliyama Philips, was screaming in fear while Jeh was in tears, leading Saif to contact the authorities.
According to NDTV, police sources revealed that the assailant attacked Saif multiple times, inflicting wounds to his back, neck, and hands as he attempted to subdue him. In a state of pain, Saif managed to push the intruder into the room, while Philips took Jeh and secured him away.
Intruder's attempted burglary and demand for money
The intruder had entered the flat on the 12th floor with apparent intentions of burglary while Saif and his family, including Kareena and their two sons, Jeh and Taimur, were present. Reports indicate that the assailant demanded Rs 1 crore, as stated by Philips.
Following the stabbing, which resulted in six wounds including a spinal injury, Saif was transported to Lilavati Hospital around 2 a.m. on the night of the incident. He underwent plastic surgery on his neck and arm, in addition to a procedure to repair a leak in his spinal fluid, and was discharged on January 21.
Attacker's arrest after a three-day manhunt
The suspect, Shariful Islam, was apprehended near Mumbai in Thane after a three-day manhunt involving at least 20 teams from the Mumbai Police. He had illegally entered India from Bangladesh the previous year. Authorities were able to trace his location after he made a payment for his breakfast using Google Pay, as reported by NDTV sources.
The Mumbai Police discovered several fingerprints at the residence of the actor, which are set to undergo analysis. These fingerprints were found on the staircase, the bathroom door, and the door handle of Jeh's room.
Shariful Islam's confession and father's support
"I did it," is reportedly the admission made by the 30-year-old two days after his arrest. Nevertheless, Shariful's father has come to his defense, claiming that his son's involvement in the matter is a mistake. He pointed out that, based on the surveillance footage, his son does not have long hair. He suspects that someone is attempting to frame his son. Having emigrated from Bangladesh to India due to political turmoil, he mentioned that his son’s employer provided him with a salary and bonuses, as stated by Md. Ruhul Amin Fakir.
